About C. William Gilchrist Gallery & Museum of the Arts

The C. William Gilchrist Gallery and Museum is a charming early 19th-century Federal mansion, built-in 1845, in transitional Federal-Greek Revival architectural style. The mansion houses six renovated galleries (those on the ground floor comprising the Gilchrist Gallery), an art library, a costume collection, a permanent collection, and landscaped gardens. From March through December, the gallery is the setting for monthly art exhibits by nationally recognized artists working in a wide range of mediums. The museum also emphasizes local and state history and culture. In addition, there are lectures, discussions, and performances scheduled throughout the season to highlight various aspects of the exhibitions.

The Gilchrist is committed to maintain and restore the historic structure and grounds and provide visual and performing arts education to the community while contributing to economic and tourism development in the area. Gallery hours are Friday-Sunday from 1PM-4PM. Admission is free and open to the public, and donations are welcome to help continue the work of the non-profit that helps serve the community. More information is available on their website at www.gilchristgallery.com.
