charcoal img series exploring the nature of sexual and social identity
Engaging in social media can be a thrilling, addictive and humbling experience. The always "on" nature of social media presents a unique opportunity to explore the sexual underbelly of social connections. These interactions are simultaneously both momentary and permanent in ways that can be thrilling and destructive to women. This project: “Sexting,” explores the dynamics of femininity, sexual empowerment, body image and misogyny.
The Charcoal IMG Series presents the female body as a canvas for comment and feedback. The drawings, based on mobile phone photos, are aesthetic reflections on a woman's body as an object of desire. The juxtaposition of a disposable art form, the camera phone “selfie,” with the hand-drawn form on canvas as high art.
